Whoop! Whoop! What a start!

After a few technical problems, we finally managed to be all connected. Thank you so much for attending this beautiful talk.

In this conversation, Gretchen Andrew and Penny Slinger shared how their practice crosses in and out of the digital as a mean to subvert material and cultural expectations.

About the music

At the end, Intermittence by Matt Gibb aka Kinbote and Samm Anga

This is an example of some of the music Samm was involved in curating and collaborating in Aberdeen with fellow creative Matt Gibb, which explores connecting past and present by combining a sample of acapella singing from Music from the Mountain Provinces in the Philippines with an ethereal ambience over an infectious modern beat. More info on Samm Anga’s website.

What did we learn?

  1. How those two fabulous artists use digital art and off-line as a form of subversion in their art practice.
  2. How beneficial a relationship between mentor and mentee is for both artists.
  3. How political activism is manifested in the artists’ works.
  4. How we relate to nature and what we could do differently.
  5. How to approach, with a critical eye, the art world, the tech industry and activism.
