Create VR scene for Mozilla Hubs

  • Study online from the comfort of home, with interactive classes that allow you to participate in discussions with fellow adult students.

Course outline

  1. Gain a general understanding of the XR industry and its standards
  2. Hubs overview: controls, user interface, import media, object menu, avatar menu, change a scene, invite friends, settings
  3. Introduction to Blender to texture and optimize 3D models before exporting in GLB format. 
  4. Use an existing model from Sketfab.
  5. Create a project in Spoke the online 3D software to create Mozilla Hubs scenes. UI, controls, adding content, grid, skyboxes, lighting and shadows, physics and navigation. Publish a scene.
  6. Advance understanding of Hubs the web-based multi-user platform

Course Delivery

12 to 16 July 2021 from 10 am to 12 (noon) BST

From Mon-Fri: about 30 min theory + 50 min practice + 20 min. Q&A

Mon 12 July

  • What is WebXR? 
  • Mozilla Hubs overview: controls, user interface, import media (.glb from Sketchfab), object menu, avatar menu, change a scene, invite friends, settings.

Tue 13 July

  • Export int .GLB with Blender: import 3dmodel (fbx), bake AO texture, basic material and export to .glb

Wed 14 July

  • Export int .GLB: import 3dmodel (fbx), bake AO texture, basic material and export to .glb

Thu 15 July

  • Creating a project with Spoke: UI, controls, adding content, grid, skyboxes, lighting and shadows, physics and navigation, publishing a scene.

Fri 16 July

  • Create your own Hubs Room and invite your friends.

Course Assessment & Feedback

By the end of the week, you will create your mini VR venue and can invite your friends to a party.
